John Darnielle - Get Your Mom Some Pie for Hanukkah

I don’t know what this song is (the album field is tagged “Goblins: Ha Ha Hanukkah” and I don’t think it’s technically a Mountain Goats song), but it exists. And it’s Hanukkah. And even though neither I nor John Darnielle is Jewish, I guess if there was ever going to be a remotely appropriate time to post this, it’s probably now?

A superb song. But what else would you expect?

Overcome It by Waterdeep

This is my favorite song from Waterdeep’s new album, No Doubt of Sunshine. The new album is very nice; you can download a little sampler over at NoiseTrade.

Historiography by the Mountain Goats

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

Here is the aforementioned song, in case you wanted to enjoy its greatness.

There was rain
There was wind
There was spring coming in
There was a feeling of approaching doom
And I was happy to see you
It was cold in your room
You were warm and that’s all I remember
And you arms were warm and that’s all I remember Later on near morning
We were talking about nothing
A little rain
A little wind
Quiet cold cold air coming in
And you were warm and that’s all I remember
And you arms were warm and that’s all I remember
And your eyes were pretty and that’s all I remember
And your hands were soft and that’s all I remember
And the hall was well lit as i walked down it and that’s all I remember
And the rain was light and it felt soft on my face and that’s all I remember
And the car was quiet inside and that’s all I remember
And it was dark when the sunlight was coming and that’s all I remember

Tulsa Imperative by the Mountain Goats

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

I’ve previously rhapsodized about this particular Mountain Goats bootleg, but it’s worth mentioning again. I have several different recordings of this song, Tulsa Imperative, but this particular one is definitely the best. Listen to it. Just one of the many reasons why the 2007 Bowery Ballroom show is one of my all-time favorites.

Outer Scorpion Squadron by the Mountain Goats

This is from the soundboard recording I made of tMG. I have been listening to this particular song a lot lately, because it is wonderful, etc.

The new Laura Marling album sounds exquisite. This song, the album closer, is one of my favorites! Listen to it! It’s beautiful.

I listened to this Portastatic album a whole lot during vacation. This is its best song, and I think you will enjoy it.

Praise the Savior now and ever by Cardiphonia

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

This is a great hymn “Praise the Savior now and ever” paired with the really fun folk tune “holy manna”. I’ve included it in a hymnbook I’m making for my Bible study to sing together, and I’m really looking forward to singing it!

Praise the Savior now and ever; praise Him, all beneath the skies;
self denying, suffering, dying, on the cross a sacrifice.
Victory gaining, life obtaining, now in glory he doth rise!

Our work faileth, Christ’s availeth; He is all our righteousness.
He, our Savior, has forever set us free from dire distress.
Through his merit we inherit light and peace and happiness.

Sin’s bonds severed, we’re delivered; Christ has crushed the serpent’s head.
Death no longer is the stronger; hell itself is captive led.
Christ has risen from death’s prison; o’er the tomb he light has shed.

For his favor, praise forever unto God the Father sing.
Praise the Savior, praise Him ever, Son of God, our Lord and King.
Praise the Spirit; through Christ’s merit, He doth us salvation bring.
